Soufriére Hills: partial dome collapse 11 Feb 2010
A partial dome collapse event occurred at Soufriére Hills (Montserrat ) volcano on February 11, 2010. The event lasted 55 minutes form 12:35 to 13:30 local time (GMT-4). Pyroclastic flow activity increased at 12:35, the first peak began at 13:04, and the event waned at 13:30. The acivity was accompained by ash emission. The ash column rose to at least 15 km (from pilot reports), travelled in the south direction and reached Guadalupe (11 February) and Martinique (February 12 - morning). ![]() MODIS (Aqua) data acquired on Feb 11, 2010 at 17:20 UTC (13:20 local time). ![]() MODIS (Terra) data acquired on Feb 12, 2010 at 02:40 UTC (22.40 local time), about ten hours after the partial dome collapse. The volcanic plume, composed by ash and SO2, enlarge upon an area of about 800 km in the east direction and 200 km in the south direction.
