Page 1 of 2 Project Info GlobVolcano project has been kicked-off on February the 1st 2007. The project will be carried out within 36 months. The activities are split into two phases: - Phase 1 , 16 months from Feb 1st 2007 to May 30th 2008
- Phase 2 , 20 months from Jun 1st 2008 to Jan 31th 2010
During the first phase volcanic information products related to “Deformation mapping by SAR”, “Surface thermal anomalies”, “Volcanic gas emission (SO2)” and “Plumes and clouds characteristics (volcanic ash)” will be developed in close cooperation with the user organizations. In addition prototype products will be generated and validated. The service provision and products delivery will take place during the second phase. The information services will be assessed in close cooperation with a worldwide selection of user organizations. Phase 1 (KO - QAR) Requirement Engineering (Task 1) will last 9 months and (KO - PDR). It will consist of the following activities: - Requirement Baseline will concern the review and consolidation of user’s requirements. It will be carried out with the support of the scientific group composed by volcano scientists. The scientific group will assist industrial component providing better interpretation and definition of user’s needs.
- Design Justification File. On the base of the results of requirement baseline activity, the project consortium will analyse processing methods available to generate requested products as well as EO data and ancillary information. This activity will include the description of: the preliminary design, the implementation plan and the preliminary validation plan.
- Technical Specification. On the base of both Requirement Baseline and Design Justification File, the projects consortium will define the technical specifications of products and system. This activity is constituted of the following components: architecture of GlobVolcano Information System (HW and SW), GlobVolcano User Interface, Products specification, that includes metadata file, ancillary information and reports, analysis of the requirements for standardisation, definition of system validation and demonstration requirements.
- Service Case Description. This activity concerns the definition and details description of the system configuration for each user organisation and its test sites (service case). As the service cases shall be compliant with the technical feasibility, during this activity a trade-off with the user will be found for the unfeasible requirements. Service Case Description will include the identification of the list of delivery products and the definition of delivery plan. The result of this activity will be reviewed and approved by the users.
Design Engineering (Task 2) will be carried out on the base of the results of task 1 activities and will last 7 months and (PDR - QAR). Task 2 concerns the design and prototyping (implementation and integration) of the components of the system. It will consist of the following activities: - Design Definition File concerns the design of GlobVolcano Information System (hardware and software).
- Definition of the Acceptance Tests to be carried out in order to validate the system against both RB and TS. The acceptance tests will be carried out during Qualification and Acceptance Review.
- Product Validation Protocol concerns the definition and description of the procedure for products validation and the identification of in-situ and ancillary data necessary for the validation. This activity will be performed on the base of DJF.
- Prototype products generation. During this activities, prototype products will be generated for phase 1 test sites. In The following prototype products will be generated: “Deformations mapping by SAR – DINSAR”, “Deformations mapping by SAR – PSInSARTM”, “Surface Thermal Anomalies products” and “SO2 mapping products (Schiamachy-OMI)”
- A Preliminary Validation of the prototype products will be carried out an reported, together with the qualitative assessment report, including the qualitative evaluations made by the User Organizations about the usefulness of the delivered products.
- In close collaboration with the IGOS GEOHAZARDS BUREAU, the GlobVolcano Database will be developed. It will include the GlobVolcano products and ancillary data provided by the User Organizations .The VIRTUAL EARTH User Interface will be integrated with the GlobVolcano METEDATA CATALOGUE so that Users will be able to visualize available EO products and information .
- Qualification and Acceptance Review (QAR) at at ESA-ESRIN premises
